Warriors Albury Wodonga Dragon Boat Club started in September 2012 and is growing not only in numbers but success in its short time as a club.
Last week capped off a big week in dragon boating for the Warriors, with great success at the Victoria State Dragon Boat Championships on the weekend and then on Tuesday 28 March with 190 students from eight high schools contesting the annual Schools Dragon Boat Challenge.
Warriors weekend success at the Victorian State Titles held at the National Watersports Centre Carrum saw us bring home medals with two first placings in the Masters Womens 20s (200m and 500m), 2nd Master Opens 20s (200m), 3rd Masters Open 20s (500).
The team had been training hard and are ready now for the national championships which will be held at the Gateway Lakes, Wodonga commencing 19 to 24 April 2017.
This year’s Annual Schools Event has been supported by a small grant from the council of Wodonga and will see 190 students from both sides of the Border participating in what provided some great competition and friendly rivalry at Gateway Lakes, Wodonga on Tuesday.
It all started at 9.30am with medal presentations by Cr Anna Speedie that went until midday.
Eight high schools participated in paddling instructions, practice sessions and culminating with heats.
